Conflicts in Faith

Writing about spiritual journeys tend to be tricky as every person experiences in different ways. For the second essay I drew a comparison between Parable of the Sower and Warrington Hudlin’s “The First Commandment”. The journeys seen were ones in which faith becomes conflicting as cultural beliefs intertwine and alter the character’s view points. During the writing process I had to reflect upon the short film and the novel in order to support my argument as to why people connect their faith to multiple parts of their lives.Comparing the experience of Lauren and Father Carlos had some difficulties as the basis of faith was different for each party.

Lauren journey focused around the foundation of her new found faith and book “Earthseed”. In Father Carlos’s situation he had to separate his commitment to archdiocese and his connection with the members of his community. For the writing process I chose the route or writing down my key points in a notebook, then transferring those thoughts by typing to allow myself more time to truly process how I wanted the structure of the paper to look like. Adding this part into the process allotting room for the collection and organization of thoughts. I enjoyed writing this piece because it was centered around a beliefs and how they are specific to each person and their experience.
